Ishq Bulava, Dhatt Teri Ki singer says our "music has to improve"

There is an abundance of new music talent in Bollywood. Newcomers are getting and exploiting their much ­needed launch pads. Sanam Puri, yet ­another kid in town, is here to prove his vocal chords for his little tryst with fame.

The singer who is also a part of a band, SQS Project, feels ­independent music is India is not great and both artist and the record labels are to be blamed. “For ­independent music, the music labels ­promise a lot and then do nothing. My band had an opportunity to cut an album with a record label. They wanted ­everything. We had no ­creative ­freedom,” says the 24-year-old singer. He adds, “The quality of music has to improve. Bollywood has raised the bar high. For an independent artist, it is important to go beyond it and perform ... that is difficult.”

The Dhatt teri ki singer is riding high on his debut song’s success and feels that a beep in the song only makes people more inquisitive about the lyrics. “A beep will only make people more curious. They’ll go online and they’ll get the full song without the beep, easily. So a beep on TV won’t really make a difference.”
