In a first-of-its-kind initiative, musicians from India and Pakistan have come together to form a band.

The concept of a joint-band has been brought forth by Lahore-based music outfit, The Mekaal Hasan Band.

Speaking of this initiative, the 41-year old founder of the band, Mekaal Hasan says, “The fact is that both the countries share a similar cultural heritage, and through this band, which will be based in India, we want to ensure that the richness of our shared heritage is celebrated through music.”

This cross-border band is already working on an album titled Andholan, which will feature Pakistani artists Mekaal Hasan on the guitar, flutist Ahsan Papu and Indian musicians — drummer Gino Banks, bassist Sheldon D’Silva and vocalist Sharmistha Chatterjee. "We are no politicians but I hope through this band, we bring the two countries closer," says Chatterjee.
