All you rock music fans, get ready for a unique concert in the city tonight — a live acoustic girls gig. The event, which is a part of a campaign conceptualised on a Facebook page, aims at projecting and promoting talented female musicians.

Called Oomph Amplification, a brainchild of Henry Moirang Sinha Choudhury, a concept gig specialist, and Kimberly Jane Thomas, a musician, the campaign claims that this is a first of its kind event in the city. “We wanted to provide a platform to talented female musicians. For now, we are concentrating on only rock musicians. We may extend to other genres later,” says Choudhury.

The campaign was started about a month ago and invited female musicians to upload the links to their songs on its Facebook page. While there were no rules or regulations for applications, but entries from participants above the age of 18 were only considered. After screening, three musicians were shortlisted, who will be performing tonight. “The response that we got was tremendous, both in quality and quantity,” says Choudhury.

The live acoustic gig will see Kannu Paliwal, the vocalist with the band Circle of Fifths, Archy Jay, lead vocalist with the band Roguesaints and Dessidre Fleming. “All the three girls are immensely talented,” says Choudhury.

The participants are quite happy with the concept of the gig. “Girls always get noticed and pull in crowds. The concept is brilliant. I am going to play nine songs in total, which will include the originals of my band and few covers too,” says Jay.

Talking about the increasing number of female rock musicians in Delhi, she says, “There is no scarcity of talent, but opportunities for female vocal musicians are less.”
