While the immediate fall-out of the terrorist attack in Mumbai last November was the cancellation of the Live Earth India event scheduled for December 2007, featuring, among others, Roger Waters and Jon Bon Jovi, the aftermath is the Concert For Mumbai set for on March 21.

While the immediate fall-out of the terrorist attack in Mumbai last November was the cancellation of the Live Earth India event scheduled for December 2007, featuring, among others, Roger Waters and Jon Bon Jovi, the aftermath is the Concert For Mumbai set for on March 21.

The aim of the event is to raise money to purchase ambulances, the lack of which resulted in the death of 30 citizens who could not be taken to hospital in time following the attack at CST.

While the concert features a fair share of international artistes, it is certainly not of the magnitude of Live Earth India concert: Lez Zeppelin — a New York-based four-member female band inspired by the original rockers — and a California-band, MASS Ensemble. Videos by both set of artistes can be viewed on YouTube.

MASS is an acronym for music, architecture, sound, and science, with the ensemble featuring one-of-its-kind instruments such as the drum orb, drum cloud, aquatar, long bow, violin jacket and drumbrella. Concert organiser Farhad Wadia is impressed with the band’s stunning visual presentation. MASS Ensemble performs on the earth harp, apparently the world’s largest instrument with strings being up to 80 metres long.

It is obvious that the pull for attending concerts is music. But I truly believe that the Concert For Mumbai goes beyond, especially for those who faced the traumatic events in the city last year. Whil I pray that something like this never happens again, you never know. Which is why we need to invest in ambulances, pronto.
