Oscar winner AR Rahman may have been under fire for his CWG anthem, but city musicians, Taufiq Qureshi and Shaan, are not shying away from composing anthems. The celebrated percussionist and the pop singer have collaborated to compose the first official anthem for the eighth edition of the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon."I was happy to compose a track for my city Mumbai," says Qureshi, who has been working on the song for almost a year. "I composed the promo track for the first Mumbai Marathon, eight years ago, it’s great to get back to the marathon again."
While Qureshi is not sure whether he’ll be sprinting on January 16, 2011, he is certain that his song will urge the participants along.
“The song is burning with energy. We’ve tried to capture the spirit of Mumbai, a city that’s always on the move. Through the rhythm, we have tried to incorporate everything, from the sound of a local train to the rush of hurried office-goers,” Qureshi says.
The lyrics of the Hindi anthem were penned by Rachna Dixit. The musicians are still figuring out an apt title: “For now, we are calling it the SCMM anthem. I would like the people of Mumbai to name the song.”
