No kiddie business

Music composer-singer Shankar Mahadevan’s sons Siddarth and Shivam bag GIMA nomination for debut album Ganaraj Adhiraj

Music may run in their blood, but composer-singer Shankar Mahadevan’s sons Siddarth and Shivam believe that the mantra is to always keep working hard towards the goal. Having bagged a Global Indian Music Academy nomination each in the Best Debut category, along with music director Gulraj Singh for the album Ganaraj Adhiraj, the young boys express thrill, yet remain humble.

“It’s a great feeling that all three of us have been nominated. All the songs in the album, are beautiful compositions,” says 19-year-old Siddarth, who is a BMM student at National College. “When you get nominated, you get the motivation to work harder. The achievement should only help us in striving harder in the industry.” His 11-year-old brother Shivam adds, “It is a dream come true for me. We both feel very good.”

Siddarth, who wants to take up music professionally, has already made a mark in the industry. Having composed jingles and serial titles in the past, he and his musician partner Soumil Shringarpure are currently working on the music for filmmaker Deepa Mehta’s next. Recounting his journey, he says, “A few years ago, we had an Apple computer, on which we’d work on a basic music software, putting together loops. Then, we started programming on the software Logic. The first song we composed featured Alyssa Mendonsa and it was for Neeta Lulla’s show at The Lakme Fashion Week.”
