No Thank You for the half-hearted job

Thank You is an all-out beat heavy soundtrack that will appeal only to seasoned Bollywood aficionados. Of the nine tracks, only five are original — the remaining four are remixes. Why remixes exist at all on a dance album, is anybody’s guess. Maybe Pritam ran out of ideas and decided to fill in the remaining space with rehashed versions.

What’s worse is that the songs are run-of-the-mill fare. Sure, when blasted out loud on a good music system, you may be able to shake a leg. But there isn’t much reason to hear any of these songs otherwise. Auto-tuning, a type of effect that makes a voice sound synthesised, made famous by artistes like Cher (Believe) and Daft Punk (One more time), is used to terrible effect throughout the album.The first song, Pyaar do pyaar lo… is a cover of the famous song of the same name from Janbaaz (1986). Mika might have done a decent job if his voice wasn’t assisted by auto-tune so much. Still, it’d be hard to really dislike this song because it has a catchy chorus. No thanks to

The next song Razia… strolls down the same path. Loud beats and unnecessary harmonies make it more than forgettable. Full volume… starts with a voice that sounds like Hard Kaur’s rapping to, Yo, turn up the volume. It does get the musicality bit right, with (if only) mildly memorable singing.

The last original song ends on a disappointing note. Pyaar mein… sounds like something out of a luxury advertisement and hackneyed lyrics like, pyaar mein ek dil ki jeet hain, ek dil ki haar hain, don’t help its cause either. Remixes by Abhijit Vaghani and Harry Anand continue from this point. Evidently, the film Thank You will have lots of dance sequences, for these songs don’t seem to serve any other purpose.
