For the first time ever, the orchestra is all set to perform in the Capital. The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (SSO), established in 1935, known to be an ­adventurous, diverse and ­flexible orchestra relevant to the contemporary audience, and promises to give the Delhi ­audience a never before ­experience.

In the last 78 years, this symphony orchestra has seen generations of fine musicians, evolved from a modest studio ensemble into one of the finest in the UK.

And next week, for the first time ever, the orchestra is all set to perform in the Capital. The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (SSO), established in 1935, known to be an ­adventurous, diverse and ­flexible orchestra relevant to the contemporary audience, and promises to give the Delhi ­audience a never before ­experience.

“Knowing Indian people a little, I feel sure that we will receive an extremely warm welcome, especially from the young audience,” says Gavin Reid, director, SSO. Organised by British Council, the 65-member orchestra will see violinist Nicola Benedetti and composer James MacMillan join the students from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. The lineup of the performance includes chosen works by some of the best known western classical music composers – Mendelssohn, Mozart and Tchaikovsky. The Orchestra is on a three city tour to India, visiting Chennai and Mumbai, beside Delhi. On April 1, music ­education expert, Paul Rissmann, will host an ­interactive workshops for young musicians in the Capital.

Interestingly, the orchestra also collaborated with AR Rahman for a performance. Speaking of his experience with Rahman, Reid says, “He is one of the most humble, modest and generous people I have ever met. The experience of meeting and working with him has been absolutely ­wonderful.” On their Delhi plan, visiting the parks tops the list. “There are so many wonderful places that we would love to visit if only we had more time! Personally, I am looking ­forward to seeing the amazing parks in Delhi – they are so incredibly ­beautiful,” adds Reid.
