On a Flight to India

Currently on their debut India tour organised by Jim Bean, the outfit that rose to fame with its second single titled Say, talks fondly about opening for Bon Jovi in 2006, writes Rajesh Ahuja.

The last ‘wannabe rockstars’ to come out of Canada were Chad Kroeger and his bad boys of Nickelback. But the Indie rock pundits from a Toronto-based outfit, Low Level Flight, don’t wish to follow suit. “The Indian music scene is much better than Canada’s. But we don’t wish to emulate others. We want our fans to know us for our pock-rock offerings that boast of a killer vibe,” says Ryan Malcolm, vocalist of the five-piece act.

We interacted with Jon and other members before the show. The show was theirs, but the audience ours,” he recalls. After the success of their debut album Urgency, the band took off on the gig-o-meter. Currently, they are penning their second studio offering where “meaningful song writing marries Indie rock”. Says Malcolm, “Holiday, one of the tracks on Urgency, spoke about the pain of people who’re struck by war for no fault of theirs. Lyrics mean the world to us. But somehow, Canadian music buffs aren’t all that receptive to artists who delve into issue-based lyrical content,” he says.
