Pendulum to perform DJ set in Mumbai

Aussie electronic band Pendulum, who are opening for The Prodigy in Bangalore and New Delhi will perform in the city.

Mumbai may have been given a miss as far as The Prodigy is concerned. But the Eristoff Invasion Festival that is bringing the English break-beat band to India will be doing a smaller gig at Blue Frog tonight. Aussie electronic band Pendulum, who are opening for The Prodigy in Bangalore and New Delhi will perform in the city along with Mumbai dubstep act Bay Beat Collective.

For the uninitiated, Pendulum, now based in the UK, is one of Australia’s largest electronic acts. “I don't see so many electronic groups in Australia. There are lots of DJs and music producers, but nothing quite like us,” says the band’s DJ, Paul Harding. Though Pendulum currently comprises six members, the gig at Blue Frog will only feature a DJ set by Harding.

The band mixes both rock and electronic in its music. Not surprising as some of its members come from rock band origins. “We draw influences from all kinds of music. Be it metal or even punk,” says Harding. “I played drums with a metal band before this. So there’s a bit of metal influence too.”

The band is thrilled to play alongside The Prodigy this week. “They are my music idols. I tried to get into a Prodigy show 18 years ago. I wasn’t even 18 then, but I fooled my way in,” he says. The band plans to start work on their new record after this, with a new single

that will come out in two weeks. “There’s still a lot of touring to be done though. We’re touring with Linkin Park and opening for them on several shows in their North American Tour,” says Paul.

What can we expect of the show tonight? “The live shows and DJ sets we do are very energetic. There’s a huge amount of bass, it’s something you need to be prepared for,” adds Harding, signing off.
