Music composer Sandeep Chowta may have been keeping a low profile for some time now, but a lot has been brewing in the musician’s life. Recently, Chowta collaborated with Grammy Award-winning American jazz-fusion band Spyro Gyro to co-produce a track, which features in the band’s latest album, A Foreign Affair.

The Hindi song ‘Khuda…’, composed by Chowta, has been sung by Arijit Singh, a contestant from the reality music show Fame Gurukool. Shabbir Ahmed has penned the lyrics. "For me, it has been a dream come true to work with Spyro Gyra," says Chowta, adding that while working on the track, there was "perfect synergy" between the band and himself, "The band loved the melody and the Indian touches in the song. It was a creative two-way process where the band would add their bits and I would put mine," says he.

Chowta hit it big in Bollywood in the last decade, scoring music for movies like Mast (1999), Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya (2001) and Road (2002). Besides the collaboration with Spyro Gyra, he is also upbeat about his second album, Matters Of The Heart, which, he says, has been in the making for eight years. “It is my dream project, in which I’ve worked with 45 artistes from around the globe.”

Matters Of The Heart has been co-produced by jazz keyboardist Mitch Forman and features icons like guitarists Scott Henderson and Lee Ritenour, pianist Dave Grusin, bassist Bunny Brunel and drummer Dave Weckl among others. “It’s difficult to fit the album into a particular genre. Most songs are ballads with a timeless quality about them,” he adds.

Ask the composer whether he’d like to make a comeback with composing OST for Bollywood projects and he says, “I’m open to anything exciting that comes my way.”
