Second album for Bandish

Indi-band Bandish have launched their second album after a break of four years and amalgamations with popular musicians are in the offing. Bollywood singers KK and Krishna have both contributed vocally.

Indi-band Bandish have launched their second album after a break of four years and amalgamations with popular musicians are in the offing. Bollywood singers KK and Krishna have both contributed vocally, while internationally acclaimed percussionist Pete Lockett features on a Hindustani classical track.

Speaking on the USP of the album, composer and drummer Chris Powell says, “I don’t think you see collaborations like these everyday. It was risky for us because these acclaimed artistes could well steal the spotlight from us. But Krishna’s presence did justice to the Sufi track. Similarly, having a foreigner sing Hindustani classical vocals was something unique and interesting. As for KK, he might not have sung in this manner even in his own album.”

Bandish band

Lockett is a big name in the music industry. He has constantly associated himself with traditional Indian percussionists and is known to have taken the initiative to work with the band himself. “To get a call from him was a big deal for me. He is such a senior musician. We learn so much every time we meet him,” says Powell.

Something Different

In the past few years, the band has performed over a 100 gigs. How do they always have something different to offer? “I think that’s the magic of seven experienced musicians coming together. We mix it up by adding highlight moments, guitar solos or sometimes even asking the audience to sing along,” explains vocalist Deepak Nair.

A promotional tour for the album is also underway. The band currently has a three-album deal with Universal Music, under which they hope to continue generating unique material.
