Shalmali Kholgade, who mesmerised audiences with songs like Pareshaan (Ishaqzaade; 2012) and Baby ko bass pasand hai (Sultan), has now added another feather to her cap. The singer tried her hand at composing her own music for a new single called Aye.

Shalmali has also directed the song’s video, which delivers a strong message about women’s empowerment.
Talking about the project, Shalmali says, “I have always had a vivid sense of imagery. When I took a few important people’s opinions on whether I should direct my own video, one man in particular — Mikey McCleary (songwriter-composer) — urged me to don the director’s hat.”
Mikey told her that no one would be able to visualise her track like she could. “He also told me that the learning graph would be huge. So, I took it upon myself to learn all I could in order to direct my first video,” she adds.
