Inspired collaborations take flight when you have chance meetings,” says international percussionist-turned-Bollywood composer Karsh Kale. The New York-based artist is hinting at a ‘chance meeting’ that ended in producer-director Shekhar Kapoor singing his penned poetry to compositions by Kale and Delhi's big beat electronica outfit Midival Punditz.

Kapoor has been spending time in the Capital at a recording studio and creating electronic melodies with Gaurav Raina, Tapan Raj (from Punditz) and Kale. “I’m exploring music. It's a superlative expression. We’re experimenting as of now,” confirms Kapoor.

The filmmaker has anthologies of verses penned down that he is reworking to melody and recording word pop (words spoken to melody) songs. “I have been writing on things I’ve observed for many years. I never knew they could be used for a song. But the fact that I can speak them out instead of singing them gives me the freedom to think in rhythm,” says Kapoor.

A fan of Baz Luhrmann, the Moulin Rouge filmmaker-musician, who wrote the word pop inspirational number Everybody’s free (to use sunscreen),’ Kapoor is unsure of what he will do with this music.
