Pop-rock artist Oliver Sean is happy to be home. Back to India from the Dubai leg of his 10-month world tour, the singer will be performing songs from his sophomore album, So Good, in the city tonight. The album has six original tracks and a cover of Bob Dylan’s anthemic track Knocking on Heaven’s Door.
“This is my best work till now. My music has matured over the years and all the songs in this album will appeal to every age group,” says Sean, who debuted with his English album, I Like It in 2002. The singer-producer, who owns the label WOA Records, has also turned director with this new project. “I have directed the video of one of my songs, ‘Movies…’ which will premiere on Vh1 mid-May. I always believed that I am a potential filmmaker and this album gave me a great opportunity to actually get behind the camera,” he adds excitedly.
The Goan singer/songwriter with Portuguese and Italian roots is currently working on his third full-length English album, which he adds “will be recorded live and unplugged.” About what inspired his upcoming record, he says, “I really miss the feel of a live band in my recordings and want to capture that energy in my next album.” His Mumbai gig will be followed by performances in Pune, Delhi and Bengaluru, before he takes off for the London-leg of his So Good tour, later this month.
Performing solo with his guitar tonight, the singer maintains that nothing compares to playing as part of his UK-based trio that includes a drummer, bassist and himself. “Since we are a small set-up, we have an instant connection among us. We work extra hard and I can say that we sound as big as a full-fledged eight-piece band.” Post the tour, the singer will also release a concert DVD featuring some of his most memorable performances till date including tonight’s performance. “I always wanted to capture the liveliness on stage and the audience’s response to our music. The DVD will feature many acts from the tour that includes my Dubai performance for a TV show as well,” he adds.
