On his second visit to India, world-renowned musician DJ Sasha is amazed by the way the electronic music scene has improved in the country in the last few years. The Welshman is one of the world’s most innovative icons in the electronic genre and a key figure in the development and popularisation of electronic dance music.

Sasha, who is also a producer, has remixed for the likes of the Madonna and The Chemical Brothers. His remix of Felix da Housecat’s Watching Cars Go By even earned him a Grammy award nomination in 2004. “I am just blown up by the electronic scene here. It has gathered a lot of momentum. I haven’t heard a great deal of it but would love to collaborate with Indian artistes,” Sasha, who had last visited India in 2005, said.

He also released Burn Mix, a compilation of nine electronic music tracks by young Indian artistes, and insists that it’s important to promote local talent. “It’s not very easy to nurture young DJs. You cannot just go after International DJs all the time; the hero is the new talent,” said the DJ, who was in the capital to perform at the relaunch of F Bar.
