After Pritam teamed up with Snoop Dogg for Singh is Kinng, and the Pussycat Dolls roped in AR Rahman for the Jai Ho remix, the list of Indian artists collaborating with international A-listers is slated to get bigger and better.
Soon, we will see the queen of Indian music, Asha Bhonsle, join hands with Grammy-nominee and pop sensation, Robbie Williams, for an upcoming album. Though their project together has been in the pipeline since 2007, Bhonsle (76), whose album Precious Platinum was recently named as one of the 100 greatest music albums ever, confirmed that the song will be out soon.
“I recorded my part in the songs two years ago, but there were some problems from Robbie’s side, so the album got stuck. It will be out soon now,” she said. As these two get together, also in the pipeline are Aadesh Srivastava’s singles, Bollywood meets Hollywood with Wyclef Jean and Abhishek Bachchan, and King and Queen with Wyclef Jean and Shakira.
Punjabi-rap sensation, Hard Kaur will be rapping with Eminem’s band, D-12, on her next album and the bling guru of Bollywood, Bappi Lahiri, has collaborations with Whitney Houston, Tina Turner and Ricky Nelson (who has worked with Michael Jackson) lined up. AR Rahman is working with six-time Grammy award winner, John Legend. He has also composed for Vince Vaughn-starrer Couples Retreat, while a song in his next Bollywood movie, Blue, features Kylie Minogue. In one of the most interesting collaborations, Vishal Dadlani’s band has composed a promotional track for Sweeny Todd-director Tim Burton’s production titled 9.
