The son and disciple of sitarist Ustad Vilayat Khan, Ustad Shujaat Khan’s musical pedigree goes back seven generations. He started giving public performances at the age of six and has since developed a unique style of playing Indian classical music. He is also known for his powerful voice.
Among his memorable performances were those at the Royal Albert Hall in London and the Royce Hall in Los Angeles. His collaboration with the Ghazal Ensemble, an Indo-Persian venture, resulted in their album, Rain, being nominated for a Grammy in 2004. He made it to Amazon.com’s list of 100 greatest musicians of the world in August 2009.
