Popular Hindustani classical vocalists Ustad Rashid Khan, Kaushiki Chakrabarty and Jayateerth Mevundi will take the stage for a charity concert tomorrow. Titled Swar Utsav, this recital is being organised by Sri Shanmukhananda Fine Arts and Sangeetha Sabha in aid of the Shanmukhananda Kansai Nerolac Dialysis Centre.

“It’s a privilege to be associated with such a cause,” says Ustad Khan, adding, “This is the first time that three of us, who belong to different gharanas (music schools), are coming together. It makes the concert all the more special.”

All the proceeds from the event will be used for the operational and maintenance costs of the dialysis centre. Chakrabarty is glad to be part of this act. She says, “Swar Utsav is special for me because as music artistes, we hardly get to work for social causes. I’m glad that this concert has given me a chance to be involved in a noble cause directly.”

She adds, “I haven’t decided the flow of my performance yet. It’s always spontaneous. As classical singers, we just need to ensure that we do not repeat the ragas that have already been sung by other artistes in the concert. I’ll decide my flow as per the performer before me.”
