When Mumbai cried freedom...

I don't know how many of you were at the Cry Freedom Concert that took place on the 4th of September.

I don't know how many of you were at the Cry Freedom Concert that took place on the 4th of September. It was the city’s first 12 hour independent music concert, where, from noon to midnight over 20 artistes performed much to the audiences delight. Of course, the concert per se started a little after 12 noon and ended way after midnight, but that didn’t stop the performances from being any less stellar.

I was hosting and performing at the do and was totally shattered by the end of it all. But while I was introducing every artiste that came on, I felt this exhilaration because I had seen most of them at soundcheck and was anxious for them to blow away the audiences there. And the artistes were as varied as they came from the acoustics of Jishnu, Ramone Ibrahim and Blakc to the jazz-soul of Adil and Vasundhara, D-Company and The Jazz Mac Duo, and the alternative punk of Spook and Afflatus to the solo blasting of Gary Lawyer, listeners were spoilt for choice. And lastly, to the mind-exploding climax were Chandresh Kudwa, Indus Creed and Boomerang among many others. It was a day to remember, for every moment was a statement to freedom.
