Former reality show winner Vasuda Sharma goes solo, to perform Alanis Morisette tribute gig in city.

At the turn of the 21st century, Delhi-born collegiate Vasuda Sharma loved nothing better than to scour through Alanis Morissette’s 90s break-up-themed album Jagged Little Pill. “I’d sing her songs at all college festivals, which always got me noticed,” says Sharma, who was member of Aasma, the band that was formed as part of Channel V’s Popstars 2 nationwide hunt.

“In fact I sang Alanis’ One hand in my pocket… and You oughta know…, which helped me crack the auditions,” says Sharma, who since the band disbanded has been finding her voice as a female singer/songwriter.

Reliving those times, Sharma has put together an Alanis Morissette tribute band, which will be taking stage at Blue Frog tonight. “I have a five-piece band, with a drummer, rhythm and lead guitarist. Since we’re doing an acoustic gig, we’ll also have a violinist and a pianist,” she adds.

The set list tonight will includes songs from Jagged Little Pill and her lesser-known tracks like Thank you… and Uninvited… Needless to say, Sharma is very excited. “I have always wanted to do a tribute for Alanis, but somehow things didn’t work out till recently. Though I’m not a big fan of her new electro music, while growing up, her angst filled songs made me a singer,” says Sharma.

For now, the singer is busy composing the OST for Govind Nihalani’s forthcoming animation and gearing up to study at Berklee College of Music this year. “I feel I have so much to learn, I pick up something new every time I jam with artistes,” feels Sharma, who previously gave music for Makrand Deshpande’s Shah Rukh Bola Tu Khoobsurat Hai (2010).
