KANPUR: After being robbed of his motorcycle by miscreants who gathered information from used goods online marketplace, OLX, an engineer tracked them down through social networking site Facebook. The accused were arrested on Monday night.
According to reports, two men reached approached an engineer Rachit Verma in Allengunj last week to buy the motorcycle which he had advertised on OLX.
Rachit took out the motorcycle and handed over the keys of the vehicle to them at Motijheel, about 2 km away from his house. Instead of giving him money, they held Rachit at gunpoint and later made away with the motorcycle.
However, Rachit refused to give up. While searching OLX, Rachit managed to get the mobile numbers of the duo. Through these numbers, he tracked the Facebook account of one of the accused and then tracked the other. He searched all the details of their Facebook accounts for two days and also went through their friends’ list and photographs.
Rachit circulated the pictures among his friends and their common friends and finally got their addresses. “I had no other way but to go after them in the virtual world. I am happy my approach bore results,” Rachit said.
