An LLRU spokesperson said, “We have received seven samples from the Mewat administration and after tests we found the samples positive. Reports of the samples have been sent to the concerned department and to the government.”

Selling, slaughtering and consumption of beef in any form is banned in Haryana under the Gau Raksha and Gau Samvardhan scheme started by the state government and is a punishable offence. However, Mewat superintendent of police Kuldeep Singh told HT, “I will able to comment on the issue after I receive the lab reports from LLRU.”

Following a complaint, authorities in Mewat district collected seven samples of biryani from shopkeepers and vendors in the Ferozpur Jhirka area, located in a village in the state’s Muslim-dominant Mewat district. They had received a complaint that beef was being added to the dish.
