But the packed courtroom saw high drama on Friday as certain sections of the media tried to talk to Peter and Indrani.

Majority of the court’s time was taken with the prosecution and defence lawyers contesting the relay of the tapes.

Peter’ s advocate Mih ir Gheewala moved an application seeking CBI ‘take necessary steps to prevent the potential evidence, documents, witness statements and material produced by it in its report from being used by the media without prior court permission’. While the court did not pass any order, it directed both the prosecution and defence to be fair, and to assist the court for a speedy trial.

When some sections of the media approached Indrani and Peter for their comments on the tapes, special public prosecutor Bharat Badami objected to it and warned both the accused to not comment. The prosecution also threatened action against people violating rules.

Badami, however, submitted that irrespective of the further investigation report, there is sufficient evidence against the accused to proceed against them. While Indrani’s lawyer Gunjan Mangala left it to the court to decide on the matter, Peter’s lawyer Mihir Gheewala alleged that it would be unfair to start the trial before the agency files a final chargesheet.
