NEW DELHI: Congress MP from Kerala MI Shanawas opposed the government’s move to refer the uniform civil code to the Law Commission, saying it should drop the idea and not try to “prick the conscience” of Muslims. Raising the issue during zero hour in Lok Sabha, Shanawas said though the Muslims believed in Shariah, they have accepted the criminal laws in all matters. “Why is government intruding upon their civil laws when there were so many important issues facing the country?”.
