LUCKNOW: The perceived differences between chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and his uncle Shivpal Yadav, who is a senior minister, may bring the curtain down on the possibility of an alliance between the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD).

It was Shivpal Yadav who proposed the alliance and brought RLD chief Ajit Singh and SP national president Mulayam Singh Yadav to the talks table in New Delhi in May.

Akhilesh Yadav, it is now said, was not amused with this, not only because he did not like the alliance idea but also because Shivpal had not taken him into confidence before making the move.

The chances of the alliance increased when Ajit Singh decided to support the SP candidates in the Vidhan Parishad and the Rajya Sabha polls earlier this month in the name of defeating the ‘communal’ BJP.

The RLD chief made the move after the BJP shut the doors on him, telling him to merge his party with it instead of insisting on a poll partnership.
