SRINAGAR: The strife-torn Valley continued to be plagued by violence on Monday as a mob set fire to the house of a policeman after security forces foiled a pro-freedom rally in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, injuring 20 people.

The clashes continued to take place against the backdrop of the all-party delegation leaving for Jammu after failing to cut ice with separatists.

The Kulgam police control room informed that the crowd torched the house of a policeman, who along with other security personnel tried to stop protesters from carrying out a pro-freedom demonstration in district’s Zangalpora village. “Tear gas shells were fired on the protesters and the situation has deteriorated,” the PCR informed.

Besides Kulgam, violent clashes also took place in parts of Srinagar. Security forces fired tear gas shells to disperse people marching towards the venue of a pro-freedom rally in Bagh-e-Mehtab Machoo area of the summer capital.

Security personnel raided the venue of a proposed rally in Srinagar’s Palpora area where a 12-year-old-boy had lost his life after jumping in the Jhelum while trying to escape forces.
