LUCKNOW: The Opposition has latched on to the opportunity to attack UP’s first family over its internal crisis, calling the dispute an outcome of a failed attempt at an image makeover.

The Congress said in an attempt to paint himself as ‘Mr Clean’ ahead of the Uttar Pradesh elections, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav went a bit too far.
“Initially, it was a political stunt. But the moment he stripped his uncle Shivpal Yadav of key portfolios, the cold war between them spilled out in the public domain. The image makeover stunt has badly backfired,” said Congress leader Satyadeo Tripathi.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) dubbed the ‘family crisis’ as an attempt to divert attention from corruption and the government’s failure on the issue of law and order.
“Mulayam Singhji is a clever politician who knows that his son’s government has failed, not just in maintaining law and order but also in checking corruption, land grabbing and crimes against women,” said UP BJP chief Keshav Prasad Maurya.
He added, “He has publicly admitted that his party leaders have been busy grabbing land. He has said the Samajwadi Party (SP) may not find it easy to return to power. Then why did he not act against the chief minister who has failed to address key issues of governance? It is nothing but a family drama,” he said.
