AHMEDABAD: The BJP on Wednesday appointed MLA Jitu Vaghani, a Patidar, as the new president of its Gujarat unit. The 46-year-old will lead the BJP to the 2017 assembly elections as it struggles to retain its key vote banks and fight anti-incumbency. His appointment comes after his predecessor Vijay Rupani was made the CM following the resignation of beleaguered Anandiben Patel amid Patidar and Dalit agitations. Like CM Rupani, Waghani also has his political roots in the RSS.
