NEW DELHI: In a first-of-its-kind rural outreach initiative, Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday started a pilot project to adopt and develop villages.
According to sources, the President’s office will oversee projects to develop basic amenities, communications and infrastructure in these selected villages.
Dhaula, Alipur, Harichandpur and Taj Nagar from Gurgaon district and Rojka Meo from Mewat district of Haryana have been selected for the pilot project.
Speaking on the occasion, President Pranab Mukherjee said he feels Rashtrapati Bhavan has been truly opened to public since village representatives were present there. He also maintained that only village representatives could transform India, which has more than six lakh villages.
The Rashtrapati Bhavan will seek to replicate its experience in transforming the President’s Estate into a smart model township in these Haryana villages.
