According to Baramulla senior superintendent of police, Imtiaz Hussain three other security men, including a cop, were injured.
Militants ambushed an army convoy around at 2:15 am when night curfew had been imposed in the area to facilitate army movement during night.
“It was an attack on an army convoy which moves usually during the night these days. Police vehicle was also moving during the same time. One policeman was killed while another cop was injured as their vehicle also came under attack,” Hussain said.
Police said an operation had been launched to track down the attackers who immediately fled in the dark.
The attack comes two days after militants attacked Srinagar’s downtown area of Nowhatta, near a famous Sufi shrine. Two militants and a CRPF officer were killed in the attack that was planned to coincide with Independence Day.
