ROHTAK: The Punjab and Haryana high court’s stay on Jat reservation has expectedly upset the Jat groups here in the district who believe they have been “betrayed by the government”.
Several khaps and other Jat groups converged at Nandal Bhawan in Bohar village soon after the judgement to discuss their further course of action. Their anger was visible as they said they had raised their resentment over adoption of KC Das committee’s report by the BJP government which was rejected by the Supreme Court.
The khaps, however, said they would wait for the stand of the BJP government on the decision. “We didn’t fight such long battle to see this day. The government has to fight further and prove whether it was ever in support of our community or not,” Nandal Khap head Mahender Singh Nandal said.
Jat youths, who were already unhappy with the reservation given on the basis of KC Das commission’s report said they knew the government was not serious to support their reservation. A call for a meeting on May 29 at Jat Bhawan in Rohtak was given to discuss how to move forward in the case. “The meeting on May 29 will decide whether we will protest or fight our case legally,” Jat youth leader Naveen Malik said.
All India Jat Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti state president Hawa Singh Sangwan said their focus would be fighting the case legally. Lashing out at the government, Sangwan said, “If the state government had included our reservation in the 9th schedule when the Lok Sabha session was going on, we wouldn’t have faced this disappointment today.”
