The Noida authority has ordered construction of public toilets on build-operate transfer (BOT) basis in the city’s biggest commercial hub – Sector 18 market.

The Noida authority has ordered construction of public toilets on build-operate transfer (BOT) basis in the city’s biggest commercial hub – Sector 18 market.

The move comes after the market association of Sector 18 demanded that toilets be built in the market area at the earliest.

The association has also demanded the construction of footpaths and service lanes along the periphery of the market area to make commuting easier for visitors and beautify the region.

SC Mishra, project engineer, work circle 2, Noida, had asked Vastunidhi Architects on July 1 to conduct an inspection of the region to determine feasible locations for the footpaths and service lanes, in coordination with the Noida authority officials as well as the market association officials.

The market at Sector 18, spread over 80 to 90 acres, has a footfall of nearly 30,000 visitors on any given weekend. Visitors face discomfort due to absence of public conveniences in the popular market.

“I am diabetic and I need to relieve myself quite often. I prefer visiting shopping malls than the market area because malls have clean restroom facilities. A dirty toilet can cause serious urinary tract infection. It is disappointing that the Noida authority, which boasts of modern infrastructure, has ignored public toilet facilities, while planning the market areas,” said Subhas Mishra, a senior citizen.
