Ghaziabad: Cong MLC booked for protest outside VK Singh’s house

The Ghaziabad police booked three persons, including senior Congress leader and member of legislative council (MLC) Naseeb Pathan, and 50-60 unidentified persons for rioting outside the house of minister of state General (retired) VK Singh at Raj Nagar.

The police said they arrested the persons for causing hurt, deterring a government servant from discharging duties and endangering the life of others.

The FIR was lodged by the police under Sections 147, 148, 332, 353, 336 of the IPC and also under the Criminal Law Amendment Act. Two protesters, Danish Saifi and Mehruddin, both from Greater Noida, were arrested and a Scorpio, which was used to ferry the protesters, was also seized.

“We tried to pacify them but they were adamant. They had brought eggs and tomatoes with the intention to throwing them into the house of Gen VK Singh. When the police reached there, they clashed with the police and threw various things at the personnel,” Kavi Nagar station house officer Ashok Shishodia said.

“He is an MLC who is serving his second term. The protest was peaceful and aimed at Singh’s recent remarks over the killing of two Dalit children in Haryana,” said Harendra Kasana, city president, Congress.

However, Pathan said the FIR was a part of “vendetta politics” and was lodged to please the Bharatiya Janata Party.

“It is known to everyone that the BJP and ruling party (the Samajwadi Party) are against the Congress. The matter was resolved, but two of our members were arrested and an FIR lodged. The FIR against me is politically motivated,” Pathan alleged.
