In a recent incident, the Hapur police arrested Deepak Bhati and Saurabh Malik, accused of murdering a Meerut-based property dealer Amit Sharma, 32. Sharma was gunned down outside his relative’s residence in Raj Nagar on the night of December 16, 2015.

On Thursday, the accused revealed to the Ghaziabad police that Deepak had plugged a GPS device in the victim’s car when it was parked outside his house in Kankarkhera, Meerut. This helped him track the victim’s location precisely in Ghaziabad.

“Deepak purchased a GPS device and roped in Saurabh to plug it in the victim’s car. At around 5am on December 15, Saurabh plugged the magnetic device in Amit’s car. Thereafter, Deepak tracked his location,” said Ashok Shishodia, station house officer at Kavi Nagar police station.

“Amit had visited Vaishali and parked his car in the basement. Deepak stopped getting a signal. However, as soon as Amit left Vaishali, he started tracking him again. The accused followed him to Raj Nagar and gunned him down. They removed the GPS device from the car and fled,” Shishodia said.

Amit and Deepak had a feud over 15 bighas of land that they had purchased together at Partapur in Meerut. This led to Amit’s murder.

“Deepak hired sharp-shooter Saurabh Malik for Rs 12 lakh. Saurabh also roped in two of his men for the job. On the night of the incident, all four followed the victim and gunned him,” Shishodia said.
