Dada-Dadi park: Work begins at home for elderly in Noida

Work has begun for the development of Noida’s unique project to revive the joint family system in the form of ‘Dada-Dadi’ park in the block B of Sector 62.

Work has begun for the development of the city’s unique project to revive the joint family system in the form of ‘Dada-Dadi’ park in the block B of Sector 62. Trucks carrying material for constructing the park have started moving in, and digging for laying the foundation of the five-storey shelter home will begin soon.

Dada-Dadi Park, an initiative of the Noida authority is a step towards the betterment of senior citizens, homeless couples and orphan children.

“Today, we see a lot of nuclear families where children are often not able to take proper care of their parents. The basic idea of constructing Dada-Dadi park shelter is to provide old couples a space they can call home,” Saumya Srivastava, deputy chief executive officer (DCEO), Noida authority, said.

The estimated cost of the project is Rs15 crore and according to authority officials, it will be ready in the beginning of 2018. The building will be constructed across of 4,300 square metres with each floor occupying 1,300 square feet area. It will have a of 76 rooms and 4 dormitories.

The Dada-Dadi park will not just be limited to an elderly shelter as the authority intends to let orphan children stay as well.

“The first three floors will be allocated to elderly people and the top two floors will be given to orphans. We intend to place 400 people in the building with 200-250 elderly and 150 orphans,” Srivastava said.

The authority also intends to make the park open to public.

“Priority will be given to couples from Noida. But, there is no restriction on the domicile of couples. Once completed, we will hand over the building to social welfare department which will look after the day to day management,” Srivastava said.
