Day after HT report, Noida authority wakes up to dust cover near MP2 Road

A day after HT published a report on the problems faced by residents of sectors along Master Plan (MP 2) Road and commuters due to the construction of an elevated corridor, Noida authority chairman Rama Raman on Wednesday appointed a team to inspect the area and take action to resolve the issue.

Raman appointed project engineer SC Mishra to supervise the team and submit an action taken report at the earliest.

“We inspected MP 2 Road early Wednesday morning and identified the most problematic zone between NTPC Chowk and Nithari village. We have ordered immediate sprinkling of water on the stretch,” said Mishra.

He said that the construction of the elevated corridor is underway for over a year now.

“We also called the contractor responsible for the construction of the 4.8-km elevated corridor and decided to cover up the areas. The covering work will be carried out at night when the traffic movement is light,” said Mishra.

The corridor is being constructed on MP2 Road for the traffic between Sector 18 and Sector 60.

“I wrote to both the authorities about pollution. I will check the action taken report soon,” said the district magistrate.

On Wednesday, HT reported that residents of sectors such as 22, 24, 26, 27, 30, 31, 33, 34, 35, 52, 59, 60, 61 and Chaura are complaining about the pollution being caused by the dust flying in the area due to the construction. They demand quick action to control the dust.

Traffic movement on the road is heavy and dust fills the area as vehicles pass through the stretch. Thick cover of dust can be seen on trees, houses, vehicles and other objects.

“I have been feeling sick due to the high presence of dust in the atmosphere of late, carried from the nearby construction site on MP-2 road. We are helpless but we at least expect the administration to ensure that dust particles do not fly,” Rajeev Garg of Sector 27 had said.

Brij Lal Awasthi, regional officer of the UPPCB Gautam Budh Nagar, said, “I have ordered my staff to inspect MP 2 Road and submit a report by Friday. I will take action accordingly.”
