The city police and officials from the district administration and Noida authority removed encroachments from Atta Market, Sector 18, Dharma Market and other areas on Thursday. A team from the authority’s enforcement wing reached Atta Market at around 11.30am to start the anti-encroachment exercise.
The main carriageway of the road leading from Sector 15 towards Sector 18, including Rajnigandha Chowk and Atta Peer areas were the main targets of the enforcement team. The carriageway and service lanes were cleared of unauthorised vehicles. The vendors usually seen encroaching upon the roadsides around Sector 18 and Sector 27 were also removed.
Both residents and shoppers in the area were happy with the move.
Pradeep Makhija of Atta Market said, “A team of police and Noida authority officials came and cracked down on the encroachers. We were surprised to see such major action by the administration. We had been demanding such kind of action from the administration for quite some time.”
Moolchand, a shop owner in Dharma Market in Sector 27 said, “I was surprised to see cranes towing away vehicles and Noida authority vehicles with adequate staff removing kiosks and rehris (carts) from the service lanes, pavements and the main carriageway.”
However, Shobhit Rastogi, a visitor to the market, felt that such measures do not help much. “These once-in-a-while actions do not check the problem. These vendors and those running kiosks will be back again after a few hours. I bet it will be business as usual in the evening. A sustained campaign is required against these encroachers. The traders who allow these kiosks to run outside their shops must also be booked. Only then will the market breathe easy,” he said.
