The Shikhar Enclave housing scheme was launched by UPHDB in 2010. A total of 216 flats were allotted to buyers in July 2011. The housing scheme offered 2BHK and 3BHK flats. The payment for the flats was to be completed by April 2013 and the possession was to be given by July 2013.

More than 150 buyers gathered outside the housing board’s office around 11am and raised slogans against the authorities. They said the 216 buyers are living in Delhi-NCR, waiting for delivery of flats.

“We had filled the forms for the housing scheme in 2010 and the flats were allotted in July 2011. By April 2013, we made total payment for the flats, but they are yet to be delivered,” VS Tomar, a buyer, said. He is currently staying in Surya Nagar.

“We have been meeting the authorities for the last two years, but they always give us a new deadline. In July, we had carried out a similar protest and officials assured us that the possession will be given by Diwali. However, here we are again, making the same demand despite it being past the latest deadline,” Dinesh Kumar, a buyer, said. Kumar is currently staying in Patparganj, Delhi.

Following the demonstration, officials of the board met the protesters and assured them of expediting the delivery.

“After learning about the grievances of the buyers, I had asked the executive engineer of the area to speak to them. We assured the buyers of delivering the flats by March 2017 and requested them to stop the demonstration,” Mahendra Prasad, additional housing commissioner (Meerut Zone), UPHDB, said.
