Ghaziabad admin devises plan to revamp major roads, markets

In a bid to give Ghaziabad city a clean and green look, the district administration has devised a plan to spruce up eight important roads and 12 markets. The plan, according to officials, will be put in place during the ongoing festive season.

District magistrate (DM) Ritu Maheshwari said that clean-up and revamp of roads will be initiated soon. She said that plantation will be undertaken on roadsides, besides other measures.

“We have decided to clear encroachments, remove illegal hoardings and banners from major roads. Broken dividers and illegal exits will also be bridged. The idea is to give city roads a cleaner look and also to streamline traffic movement,” she said.

“We have already prepared a traffic plan for the district and the city, which will be put in place soon. The departments concerned have been directed to take up work and ensure the plan is successful,” she said.

The work will be undertaken on roads across the city — UP-Gate to Mohan Nagar intersection, Apsara border to Lal Kuan (stretch of GT Road), Meerut tri-junction to Raj Nagar Extension crossing, Seemapuri border to Karhera, Hapur tri-junction to Dasna (near NH-24), Ambedkar Road, NH-24 to GT Road Link Road and Meerut tri-junction to Raj Nagar Extension bypass road.

“At the markets, we will be clearing encroachments and taking up road repairs. Apart from this, the departments concerned will ensure that streetlights are functional. The roads will be made pothole-free and painting done on dividers. Illegal hoardings and banners will also be removed,” a district administration official said.

Agencies such as the Ghaziabad Development Authority, municipal corporation, UP Avas Vikas and the public works department (PWD), among others, will pool resources to implement the plan.

In June, under the direction of the state government, the agencies completed more than 85% work on making roads pothole-free in Ghaziabad, including major stretches of nearly 315km assigned to PWD, 50km under the Ghaziabad Development Authority and nearly 130km assigned to the municipal corporation.

The municipal corporation is tasked with maintaining 3,032km of roads, including internal roads of residential localities and by-lanes.
