The project, meant to connect Raj Nagar Extension to UP Gate (Delhi-UP border), is pegged at Rs 1,147.6 crore and is already running four months behind schedule due to various reasons.

“The work of placing precast segments in the first phase is over. To connect the descending road near NH-24, we just need to construct two ramps, of 300 metres and 400 metres, and that will take another month. In case the officials find it feasible, the first part of the road can be opened by August,” said Chakresh Jain, executive engineer, GDA.

The first stretch faced a delay of nearly two months. The other part from Vasundhara to Raj Nagar Extension is held up at two places while the segment placing work is going on at a rapid pace. The officials said the first delay was due to delay in shifting transmission lines by the Railways between pillar numbers 131 and 150, near Vasundhara.

Once complete, the road will give a direct bypass and a connectivity to traffic coming from Meerut, Raj Nagar Extension and proceeding towards NH-24. The authority has also completed the connection of ramp that descends at Vasundhara (near Hindon canal) for vehicles from Raj Nagar Extension towards Indirapuram and nearby areas.

A ramp is also under construction from Vasundhara for commuters who wish to take the elevated road towards Raj Nagar Extension and Meerut. The entire six-lane road is to be constructed over 227 pillars on the 10.3km stretch.

Once complete and operational, the road will relieve the traffic burden at Mohan Nagar intersection, Vasundhara railway underbridge and also over other roads connecting NH-24.
