Ghaziabad authority seeks new DPR of rapid transit project with modified alignment

The officials of the authority’s engineering department said earlier, the project route was proposed on the Link Road and GT Road. However, the new route will enter Sahibabad industrial area from Anand Vihar and then moving towards the railway track near river Hindon, they added.

In a joint meeting of Ghaziabad development authority (GDA) with NCR Transport Corporation (NCRTC) on Thursday, the authority officials have asked for a detailed project report of the regional rapid transit system (RRTS) alignment which is proposed to connect Delhi, Ghaziabad and Meerut (DGM).

The meeting was held at the GDA headquarters and was attended by officials of NCRTC. They gave a presentation about the proposed RRTS route from Delhi to Ghaziabad, which will also have an underground section. The authority officials said the proposed route has some deviation from the original route plan and have sought a detailed project report (DPR) from NCRTC.

“Since the route is different from the originally proposed one, we have sought the DPR. We have also asked the NCRTC officials to align the RRTS in such a manner that it does not clash with our major crossings and also provide integration with the proposed metro routes in Ghaziabad. We have also asked them to shift their stations a bit as one is proposed near the alignment of the Eastern Peripheral Expressway,” said Chakresh Jain, executive engineer, GDA.

The NCRTC is entrusted to develop the high speed RRTS project over a 90km route from Delhi to Meerut. Developed on the lines of the metro train system, the trains under the RRTS will have AC coaches, aeroplane type seating and luggage space, and a capacity to transport 2,400 passengers.

The average speed of the RRTS trains is pegged at 100 km per hour (kmph) as compared to the average speed of 30kmph of the metro train system. The 90km DGM section will also be integrated with the Metro, airport and other transportation modes. The section will have a total of 17 stations with trains running at a frequency of 5-10 minutes.
