The GRP arrested Israr, Hasim and Arif, of Hapur, and Robin, a resident of Bulandshahr. The men, aged 24-30 years, had boarded the Moradabad-bound passenger train at Simbhaoli and entered the women’s coach at Kuchesar railway station. The officials said that the four accused conducted the robbery during the night, after boarding the train around 8.30pm on July 12.

“At Kuchesar, they entered the women’s coach and asked the passengers to open the door so that they could meet their family members who were inside. When the train started to move, they immediately locked the coach from the inside and held seven women at gunpoint before robbing them of cash, jewellery and mobile phones,” said Randhir Singh, circle officer, GRP Ghaziabad.

The police said that Robin and Israr, both, have four criminal cases registered against them in Ghaziabad and Hapur districts. The police are also trying to find out the criminal history of the other two accused, who they believe do not have any cases against them so far.

The police recovered the passengers’ belongings, including the four mobile phones that were taken by the accused during the train robbery. The police also recovered 95 other mobile phones that the accused had snatched or stolen from others.

The recovered jewellery, mobile phones and the accused were also identified by the seven woman victims, officials said.
