The Ghaziabad development authority (GDA) will shortly open the rail under pass (RUP) near Vasundhara which will ease pressure at Mohan Nagar and also at the Hindon canal road in future. The officials said that opening of the RUP will be synchronised with the opening of NH-58 to NH-24 Link Road.

The officials said that the NH-58 to NH-24 Link Road, costing nearly R180.11 crore, will be complete by October end. Further, the RUP at Vasundhara will also get completed within a week after Diwali. The RUP project, along with approach roads on both sides, costs nearly R48 crore.

“However, we have a major issue as the mechanical launcher which will place segments over the pillars constructed for Hindon elevated road, will be moving to the approach road near Vasundhara RUP. This will restrict the movement of heavy and light vehicles towards the RUP and further towards the canal road. Keeping this in mind, we will open the NH-58 to NH-24 Link Road so that major traffic can use this road to move towards NH-24,” said Vijay Kumar Yadav, vice-chairman, GDA.

“The mechanical launcher will work for the elevated road for nearly two months. This will disallow bigger vehicles to move through the RUP area. So we have also given a provision of an alternate path for two-wheelers which will use Indira Priyadarshini Park and move towards RUP without using the canal road,” Yadav added.

Presently, the canal road has a single two-lane road, below the railway section and along river Hindon, which is used by both sides of traffic coming from GT Road and Vasundhara. Once the RUP gets opened, the existing road will be used by traffic moving from GT Road towards Vasundhara while the RUP road will be used by traffic coming from Indirapuram, Vasundhara towards GT Road.

In another major move, the authority is likely to finish the work on the RUP at Sahibabad railway station by December. The RUP will save travelling distance of nearly 4 km for commuters who have to use busy Mohan Nagar intersection to reach opposite directions.
