Ghaziabad: Vasundhara underpasses opened to ease traffic flow

Since the old bridge over Hindon was declared unsafe and beyond repair, commuters going towards Mohan Nagar can use the Vasundhara underpass. The two underpasses are close to river Hindon, the Hindon barrage and also the Hindon canal, which is a bottleneck due to less space.

The Ghaziabad development authority (GDA) has opened the old and the new underpasses below the Delhi-Ghaziabad railway section near Vasundhara to ease traffic flow after the old bridge over the Hindon was shut.

The old underpass will be used for one-way movement, from Ghaziabad city towards Vasundhara, Indirapuram and NH-24.

“The new underpass will cater to traffic moving from NH-24, Indirapuram and Vasundhara towards Ghaziabad city. The one-way traffic movement will considerably reduce traffic congestion. Once the elevated road gets operational, commuters will get more relief,” said Chakresh Jain, executive engineer, GDA.

Under the rotary system, the authority will put up signage for left and right turns. Once it is in place, the area of two underpasses will be a no-stop zone and traffic can circulate easily without hindrance.

Before the new underpass was constructed, traffic moved in both directions through the old underpass, which led to jams and snarls, especially during the rush hour.

The roads connecting the two underpasses to GT Road near river Hindon have already been widened to four lanes by the authority.
