Greater Noida: Two men beaten up for ‘stealing cows’, arrested

In Greater Noida’s Namauli village, two men were beaten up for stealing cows by villagers and arrested by the police

Two people were beaten up in Namauli village in Greater Noida for allegedly stealing cows and handed over to the police.

The two have been identified as Navbahar and Shiv Kumar, both from Dankaur. According to the police, they are aged between 22 and 25 years.

Police said the incident took place around 2pm on Saturday when some people of Namauli village spotted the two youth goading three cows into a transport van near LG Chowk.

Two of the villagers claimed that the cows belonged to them.

Akhilesh Tripathi, station house officer (SHO), Knowledge Park police station, said, “Two persons were brought to the police station by a group of people alleging that they were caught stealing cows in Namauli village.”

“They were intercepted by the villagers near LG Chowk in Greater Noida. The group of villagers nabbed the two and thrashed them with fists and sticks. Later, the two were brought to the police station by the villagers along with the cows,” said Kamal Shankar Trivedi, the investigating officer.

On preliminary questioning, it was revealed that Navbahar and Shiv Kumar were transporting the cows to Bulandshahr to sell them, said the investigating officer. Villagers had alleged that there have been many instances earlier when their cows had gone missing, but it has not been reported to the police, Trivedi said.

Police have booked the two men under sections 379 (theft) and 411 (possession of stolen property) of the IPC and produced them before court on Sunday, from where they have been sent to judicial custody.

However, no case has been filed against those who thrashed the two.
