Ghaziabad: Hindon Barrage road to be closed for Chhath puja

The traffic police have put in place a route diversion plan ahead of Chhath Puja celebrations in the city that start on November 4. As per tradition, women will be offering prayers to the sun while standing in the river, on the evening of November 6 and the morning of November 7. Over 20,000 to 30,000 city residents are expected to reach the Hindon Chhath Ghat to conduct the puja.

According to traffic police officials, the bridge connecting GT Road to Hindon Barrage road will remain closed for commuters and no vehicles will be allowed to come down the Hindon Barrage road that connects Vasundhara and Mohan Nagar. Hence, vehicles will have to use the Mohan Nagar Link road to travel between Vasundhara and Mohan Nagar.

Further, as the Hindon Barrage road will remain free from traffic, it will be used as a parking area by devotees, they said.

He added that in order to manage traffic, more than 30 traffic police constables and civil police constables will be deployed in the area.

“A large number of vehicles going to Noida and Delhi pass through the Hindon Barrage road as it is the shortest route from Ghaziabad city to the trans-Hindon area. We are expecting a heavy flow of traffic on the Mohan Nagar link road route on Sunday evening and Monday morning,” said Kumar.
