A 24-year-old man was booked for allegedly kidnapping a 19-year-old woman from Greater Noida West. Police said the woman, Pinki, works as a domestic help in a high-rise society while the suspect lives in the neighbourhood.

The woman’s father Satyapal Singh on Friday filed a complaint about his daughter being kidnapped at the Bisrakh police station. The woman who hails from Bijnor had shifted to Greater Noida West with her parents, two brothers and two sisters last year. The suspect, Qayamuddin, a resident of Gopal Ganj, worked as a plumber in a Greater Noida society.
“On December 3, Pinki had an off day and she suddenly went missing from home. We launched a search but failed to trace her. We approached police who found that the last person she called before going missing was Qayamuddin, who is also missing since then. We suspect he had kidnapped my daughter to marry her,” said Pinki’s mother Babli. She said the two families had objected to their relationship as they are from different religions.
The UP government last month had introduced Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance, 2020, under which a marriage is declared “null and void” if the marriage is done solely for the purpose of conversion. The law provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years and a maximum fine of ₹ 50,000 under different categories.

It is premature to comment if they had eloped to get married. Due action will be taken as per the law,” he said.
