He is currently admitted to a hospital in Greater Noida. The police have denied that it was a suicide bid and said that they are investigating the incident.

Mohit Singh (24), a resident of Surajpur, is alleged to have shot himself in the chest around 10pm at his residence using a countrymade pistol. According to doctors who are treating him, one bullet went through Singh’s body and he is being treated for a chest injury.

“We received the information at 10.15pm and dispatched a team immediately. He was sent to Kailash Hospital for medical attention. No note has been found near him nor has the family has given any reason behind this act of Singh’s. We have not lodged a case as an investigation is going on,” Akhilesh Pradhan, station house officer, Surajpur police station, said.

“We have operated on Singh. His condition is critical and he is still on ventilator support. He has one bullet injury to his chest and the bullet has passed through his body. He is still under our observation,” Dr Sanil Kapoor, medical superintendent, Kailash Hospital, said.

The police said they are yet to get a lead in their investigation and they have not been able to question Singh as he has remained unconscious since allegedly shooting himself.

“Until now, according to the information we got, Singh recently completed his Bachelors of Science course. Rest of the details will be updated once he regains consciousness,” Suniti, superintendent of police (rural), said.
