Noida: 6-year-old boy’s body fished out after father threw him in drain

Police recovered the body of a six-year-old boy on Tuesday , almost 30 hours after his father attempted suicide with his two kids by jumping into a drain in Noida. Police recovered the body of six-year-old Mayank in the Shahdara drain between Noida’s Sector 15 and 15A. The accused, Dharmendra Kashyap, had allegedly thrown his two kids, before diving into the drain himself on Sunday evening. Police arrested Kashyap after his wife Priya (25) lodged a complaint against him.

According to locals who stay in nearby shanties, some children had spotted Mayank’s body floating in the drain.

“Divers helped in recovering Mayank’s body which was found in a decomposed state. We identified the body based on his clothes and information from the family,” said Anil Sahi, station house officer, Sector 20 police station.

“We lodged a case against Kashyap under IPC Section 309 and 304 for attempted suicide and death due to negligence. We have arrested him and are questioning him,” added Shai.

According to the statement by his wife, he had been unemployed for the past two years and was under pressure from his family to find a source of income.

After the report, police said that they had sought help from the department of irrigation and flood control to trace the body on Monday. “It was finally the locals who spotted the floating body on Tuesday morning,” added Sahi.

“We got a call at around 7 am on Tuesday by a local youth who said the body was seen floating on the drain by some children,” said Beena Devi, Kashyap’s mother.

Mayank’s body was cremated by his family at 6 pm on Tuesday.
